More goodies for the Turbo Wagon Turbo

I have a set of engine and transmission mounts set to go in tommorow afternoon, courtesy of Charlie.

It turns out that the Kartboy shifters do not fit the early Legacy models, and it probably carries over to the early Imprezas as well. I opted for the STi assembly, which is shorter and a bit stiffer than even new stock, much less a 10-year old setup.

I'll probably see Noah at MG, since he's having something done there tommorow. Seems like he's got an engine in sight too, yummay.

MOVING.....someday Mini

Well my move keeps on getting pushed back. Now there are issues w/breaking my lease and cost of shipping/moving all our stuff.
I still have $600+ in parts in my apartment wanting to go on the car. Installing these parts all depends on when this move happens.

I'll let you guy know when the move thing all happens.
PS. I want a copy of the videos...e-mail me Turbo

ARG Video Collection Volumes 1-3 Turbo

I've compiled 3 CDs jam packed with all of the video that both Benson and I have taken over the last two years. It's all in Quicktime format and most of it is really pretty good stuff.

Please let me know if you want a copy of the disc ASAP, so i can make a few duplicates to bring down tommorow and pass out.

$5 to cover my time and CDR costs?

Moving Sucks! Mini

Well I just got back from Chicago, damn it was cold up there. If I can find a good place to live it will be cool.
The car will be getting transported up there so I won't have any break in work and I don't have to get the tranny fixed before I go. I am going to try to get a place near the train so I don't have to drive to work (parking is a bitch downtown).
Turbo, glad to hear all is well with the wagon. Can't wait to ride in it.

It's in... Turbo

Well, Charlie finished the job yesterday, rounding out some electronic issues that differ between the AT and MT.

So, how does it drive? It's fast.

I'd go so far as to say that at 6.6PSI, it's as fast as the AT at 11-13PSI. It also feels lighter and more balanced, which probably has to do with the much lighter MT and the removal of a lot of ATF.

The boost is at 6.6PSI because the AVC-R wiring was run through the clutch master cylinder hole, which is now occupied. I'm going to have to figure out a good way to get the wires through.

Thanks to Charlie, Benson and Kizerian for their help.

Nearly time Turbo

Charlie wants me to come in tommorow afternoon to get started. Hopefully we can get everything done late, late Thursday or early Friday.

Brakes are on... Mini

Well that was one of the easiest things I've done to the car in a while. With the help of my freind John, we got them on and blead in no time. Might have some pics for you.

I recieved a WRX BOV this week that has the part I needed to recycle the air back to the intake. Now it is a matter of finding the right hoses to finish the job. I am going to try to get that done tomorrow and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I should be in Chicago in the next month or so...god I hate moving.

The Saga Continues... Turbo

Well, it's not in, and won't be in till next weekend when Charlie can actually get to it. I caught him in a very busy swing and he insists that he can't work this weekend for fear that he'll get the boot at home. Oh well. I'm actually considering Modern Garage, as their price isn't too bad, and they can get right on it.

Other problems have come up as well, they didn't send a crossmember for the transmission, or the spring that connects the two shift rods, or a real 4.11LSD, or even, in fact, a 4.11 transmission. You know why?

There were no 4.11 Legacy Turbos, they were all 3.9.

Thanks to some very in depth investigation, and Subaru tech manuals, Alex (friend of mine in SF) and i got down to the bottom of it.

So, i'm gonna call him back today and get my other parts, that spring, a pedal assembly that's not rusted, and insist on my $250 back for the LSD, cause i know FSA can get them for cheaper than that.

Milo

Hey Turbo,
Hope that tranny went in with out any problems and that you are driving around with it now. I bet it feels good to shift through them gears. Come on let us know how it went...

It's here! Turbo

Well, Charlie wisely held back the news that the palette containing my parts had arrived on Friday, a wise decision on his part, because i surely would have gone nuts at the time.

The install is scheduled to begin on Friday afternoon and go through Saturday and perhaps even Sunday. With his experience in transmission removal, with no small benefit coming from Benson's trials with his, it should be a pretty straightforward operation.

Damn i'm exited!

Tranny Progress Turbo

Well the first part has arrived, a brand new Exedy lightweight flywhell at the tune of about 12lbs.

On the clutch/pressure plate side, i'm getting an Group N disc with a non-US WRX pressure plate and new bearings.

The tranny *should* be here within the next day or two, i'm noping to get things rolling thursday, if the car gods can speed up delivery and Charlie's current work load.

Brakes Mini

Just got the other two Legcay wheels and the brake bracket that I needed. I will spend the next few days finishing the prep work on all the brake parts. All the parts will be painted black w/engine paint. The bigger brakes will be put on this Saturday.
The wheels will be waiting in my closet until I can come up w/$500 to spend on race tires. Most likely after I move to Chicago.
The IC install is stalled due to one little part :(
The tranny will be fixed by mid Feb.

The pow pow's calling, it was just way too sick out there today, and tomorrow's gonna be better....i'll get those photos up soon though.... --------Micro

brake conversion Milo

Mini,
Did you do that brake conversion yet? I bet that will be a whole lot better than what you have now. Do you have drums in the rear or did the coupe come with discs? I'm looking forward to swapping out my brakes at some point soon also, I can't wait to get rid of the rear drums. I have a set of WRX front brakes but have yet to find a really good deal on a rear set with all the parts I will need to do the swap so I'm going to wait until I have everything to do it.
Let us know how your swap goes.
Later,
Noah

January 28, 2002 8 :16 PM
thanks guys Milo

I just wanted to thank everyone for helping with my suspension swap. The car feels so much better now , it is like a whole new car : ) I think the expense of the whole kit was well worth it. Now I just need to resolve the issue of the tires rubbing on the springs and get an alignment and I'll be ready to put the suspension to the test. Right now I think the Toe is way off because the rear of the car on the icy roads wants to do mini fish tails all the time, suffice it to say it was pretty tense driving today on the slick roads.

Suspension install for Noah Turbo

Well, the deed is done, and while there were a few pitfalls including a non-drilled link and the whole tire-ordeal, Noah was able to drive home in his car.

Here's a link where you can browse the images, till Micro gets around to making them more presentable: Pix

Moving and installing parts Mini

As most of you know I will be moving again soon, this time to Chicago. I'm not sure exactly when, but sometime in March.
Next weekend I will be installing Legacy brake on the front of my car. I ended up buying 2 new calipers, 2 new rotors and only using the brackets that turbo gave me. Still, the rotors will be almost 1" bigger diameter and I'll have 2 pistons instead of 1.
The intercooler is still waiting for a part before I can get it put on.

DMS 50s? Turbo

Geez Noah?

Way to spend more on your coilovers than your car!

Saturday? I hope it isn't snowing...
